RESUMO:

Changes in the climate resulted from the burning of fossil fuels claims to an urgent modification in the energy matrix. Biodiesel is one of the alternatives proposing the replacement of mineral diesel. The aim of this work is the study of biodiesel production from oiticica oil by a methylic transesterification through homogeneous catalysis (NaOH and KOH). Oiticica has a high oil content in its almond (> 60%). The seeds were selected and classified according to the year (2015 and 2017), the crop and the degree of maturation of oiticica seeds (green - V, dry - SS, mature - M and green without epicarp - SV). The oiticica oil was extracted by continuous and discontinuous mechanical pressing. From the physical-chemical parameters the following ranges were obtained for each oil of the 2015 harvest:  acid index (0.78 to 2.46 mg KOH / g), saponification index (198.5 - 188.2 mg KOH/g), iodine value (93.4 - 102.1 g I2/g), density (964.4 - 967.3 kg/m3), kinematic viscosity (125.7 -150.5 mm2/s), humidity (0.084-0.131%; and the 2017 harvest:  acid index (0.55 - 1.37 mg KOH/g), saponification index (198.5-209.2 mg KOH/g), iodine value (129.4 - 139.8 g I2/g), density (962 - 965 kg/m3), kinematic viscosity (129.4 - 141.8 mm2/s), humidity (0.040 - 0.113%). The chemical composition of the oil and methyl esters were evaluated using gas chromatographia coupled with mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). The synthesis study of biodiesel was carried out under different conditions: temperature (32, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60, 65 and 80 ° C), reaction time (2, 3, 4 and 5 h), (1: 6, 1: 9, 1:12, 1:15, 1:20) and mass percentage of catalyst (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0%). The most favorable result was molar ratio )RM) of oil/alcohol of 1: 9), 32 °C, 1wt% KOH catalyst and 4h for green oiticica oil without epicarp of the second crop of 2017 (OSV2). The best physical-chemical results achieved among all the syntheses were: acid index (0.34 mg KOH/g), density (922.6 kg/m3) and kinematic viscosity (8.647 mm2/s). The conversion of the esters was determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG). The validation of B100 was performed by analysis of TGA-FTIR (thermogravimetric with Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectrophotometer), which identified by the spectra the presence of esters only. Em condições otimizadas, obteve-se o grau de pureza máximo de 96,1%, em 4h15min, com 1,27% do catalisador KOH em solução metanólica preparada 24h antes de ser misturada ao óleo a 32°C. In the oxidative stability test, the B100 reached only 0.43 h, indicating a very short time for storage. This result shows the susceptibility to oxidation of biodiesel, most probably due to the characteristics of the oil seed chemical constituents. Analyses with the formulated blends (B10, B20, B30, B40 and B50) revealed that only one presented acid index above the limit, i.e., B50. For density and kinematic viscosity, all results were within the range specified by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels). In respect to density and kinematic viscosity, all results were within the range specified by the ANP. The flash point for B100 (183°C) and B10 (58°C) was well above the specified limit, which demonstrates the energy potential of these biofuels. However, even the parameters: water content (477.2 mg/kg), acid number (0.55 mg KOH/g) and kinematic viscosity (8.806 mm2/s) having been shown to be outside the specification limits, the latter as a function of the constituents of unsaturated and long chains, the reduction was quite significant in view of the high viscosity of oiticica oil. It was concluded that the reactive conditions studied were viable for the production of oiticica biodiesel.
