RESUMO:

Contamination of water can occur through several processes, among them, through the formation of by-products from the chlorination stage of the treatment itself. In this process the organic matter still present in the water binds to free residual chlorine, thus generating substances called organochlorines. Among these halo-substituted organics is 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, which has been widely studied because of its high resistant and carcinogenic power and is listed as a priority substance by the US EPA. The water supply usually presents low values of this compound, but this evaluation is still very uncertain due to depend on a series of factors like pH, chlorine dosage, contact time, inorganic compounds and amount of organic matter still present in the water. Thus, this study is important because of the bioaccumulative power and the harmful effects that can be generated in the long term. Advanced oxidative processes have been shown to be very efficient for the degradation of organic compounds, however, for halide molecules this process is not completely effective. An alternative to the optimization of the same is to place a reduction process with the presence of a zero valence metal before the oxidative in order to dehalogenate. Therefore, the present work will propose a treatment system of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol in water, in which it will couple a reductive process with zero valence copper to an advanced oxidative process, through a photochemical reactor having as oxidant the hydrogen peroxide.
