SUMMARY:

This research explores the intersection between Geography and Literature, by utilizing Graciliano Ramos's work "Vidas Secas" as its main focus. The choice of this work is due to its ability to provide a profound understanding of the social context that shapes the geographical scenery depicted in it. Beyond that, its strong connection to reality is crucial, as the narrative fictionally demonstrates the social challenges faced by the sertanejo community, focusing on the story of the cowboy Fabiano and his family. Given these observations, the highlight is given to the central question guiding this research: To what extent is the spatial dimension central to Graciliano Ramos's literary construction? Based on this guiding question, the main goal is to analyze the spatial dimension in Graciliano Ramos's literary construction, with a focus on the work "Vidas Secas." The methodological procedures adopted were primarily based on bibliographic and documentary research. In this process, the emphasis is also laid on that the analysis of "Vidas Secas" will take as its interpretative path the "elements of understanding" pointed out by Cândido (2000; 2006), which consist of a thorough study of aspects related to external factors, the author and, finally, the work itself. As a result of this research, it is hoped that by proposing this dialogue, there will be an amplification of understanding about the Northeast of the twentieth century and a promotion of dialogue between Geography and Literature. Furthermore, the aim is to understand the human issues constituting the geographical space presented in the work, exploring the boundary between the real and the imaginary in Graciliano Ramos's writing.
